The  Discover Scuba Diving program introduces people to scuba diving, taking their first breath underwater,  in a highly supervised, controlled and relaxed manner. There are three components to the Discover Scuba Diving training: knowledge development, confined water training and open water dives. Under the guidance of a Professional Instructor, non divers learn basic physics, physiology, safety concepts, diving equipment and swimming underwater.

It is a non certified, 1 day, 2 dives program. You will earn the Try Scuba Diving recognition rating.

TRY DIVE FOR KIDS

Youngsters from 8 years old can join the Try Dive program and experience scuba diving. Children should be comfortable in the water, but they don’t have to be super swimmers. With youngsters in mind, the maximum depth is only 2 metres.

Kids get a chance to:

  • Experience what scuba diving is like under the direct care and supervision of professional Instructor
  • Take their first breath underwater
  • Learn about and use scuba diving equipment

Discover Scuba Diving in Bali: F.A.Q

•How long does a dive last? The answer is «it depends». This question  doesn’t have a single answer. People breathe at different rates and the deeper you go, the more you use your air. The average dive during a discovery lasts about 40 minutes.

•What do I need to bring with me on the excursion? A hat, sunglasses, sunscreen lotion and a towel. If you tend to get motion sickness it’s recommended that you take pills. Mineral water is provided.

•Is lunch included? YES. After finishing the 2 dives, we all eat together a warung (local restaurant). It is part of the day. You’ll also get snacks  between the dives, coffee and tea.

•Can I have breakfast just before a dive? Yes. Actually it is a good idea to eat light before a dive. It’s not really recommended to have a full heavy breakfast. A good one is enough!

•Can I drink alcohol before diving? No. Alcohol isn’t recommended before dive.

•How deep will I go? For the first dive you can go to 5 meters depth. For the second dive, maximum depth is 12 meters, always under the direct supervision of your instructor. For kids age from 8 till 9 years old, maximum depth is 2 meters.

•How old do you have to be? 8 years old. A minor from 8 till 18 years old will need written consent from parent or guardian to dive with us.

•Is scuba diving dangerous? As with any adventure sport, some risk is involved. Scuba diving is not dangerous as long as a diver seeks thorough training, follows safe diving guidelines, uses proper gear, and dives within his experience level. Statistics show that recreational Scuba diving is about as safe as swimming. We encourage divers to approach the sport with an appropriate amount of respect.

•I have done a discovery. Can I dive with qualified divers? No. You can’t dive with certified divers because you’re not qualified. You need to do a course and obtain your Open Water Diver certification first.

•Can I wear my contact lenses under the mask? Yes. Soft lenses can be worn.

•Can my buddies join as passenger? Yes. You can dive and your friends and family can come along. It’ll be a nice day as well for them. The dive sites in Bali for Try Dive are also really enjoyable for snorkelling.

•How soon can I fly after a dive? Be aware that there is a no fly rule after diving. For safety reasons, allow 12 to 24 hours between your last dive and your flight.

•I have asthma. Is it possible to dive? Some types of asthma are compatible with scuba diving and others are not, like sever chronicle Asthma. It is highly recommended to check with your Doctor to confirm if you are fit to dive and get a medical clearance.

•I have a cold and a cough can I dive? If the sinuses are not blocked you can dive. If the sinuses are blocked then you will have a problem equalising the pressure in your ears, then it is recommended not to dive.

•I am pregnant, can I dive? No. Because physiologists know little about the effects of diving on the fetus, the recommendation is that women avoid diving while pregnant or trying to become pregnant.

Note: To enrol in Discover Scuba Diving program, you need to feel confortable in the water and be in good health conditions. You will need to complete a Medical Questionnaire upon arrival to Southern Dreams Diving Club. If you have any medical history or condition, doesn’t mean that you are not qualified to dive, but will indicate the need for a medical assessment by a qualifies physician prior diving. Your dive medical clearance can either be done by your Doctor back at home, or here, in Candidasa, Bali, and must state you are ‘fit to dive’.
