Dive Bali: Nusa Penida
Nusa Penida, known as Bali’s little sister island, is not as developed as Bali nor does it offer many resorts. What it does offer is incredible dive spots.
The crystal clear waters in Nusa Penida, with beautiful white sand beaches, and limestone cliffs have become very well known both by the diving and snorkelling community. It is home to more than eight dive sites, but we have chosen the best few of them for you to enjoy.
This is most probably the most well-known dive site in Bali. Home to a cleaning station, divers have the chance to observe many oceanic mantas swimming gently in the shallows. The maximum depth reached on this dive is 18 meters. White sand and a few large boulders covered with card corals form the seabed. Water here can drop to 19 degrees and also visibility can be reduced during less optimal diving conditions. That being said, having the opportunity to swim amongst the mantas is more than worth the work!>/p>
Crystal bay is a small charming bay with crystal clear blue water, white sand beaches and palm trees, located at the Ceningan Chanell.
It is a well known dive site due to the frequent seeing of Mola Molas that come to the cleaning station from June up to November. Apart from Molas the spot offers a stunning healthy and colorful reef, whit an enormous variety of reef fish, morays, fusiliers, barracudas and turtles.
Depending on the moon and tides, currents can be very strong. A good planning is crucial to dive in this spot. Water temperature can drop to 16C. Crystal Bay earn its name due to its excellent visibility, from 30 to 50 m.
NUSA PENIDA NORTH COAST
Here we can find a sloping reef that is perpendicular to the coast, rich in both hard and soft corals forming large bomnies. Fish life here is excellent, from schooling jacks, fusiliers, sweet lips, damsels to patrolling white tip sharks, giant trevalies and turtles. The North side of the island is exposed to strong currents that flow through the Lombok Strait making any dive here a drift dive. Visibility is very good. Proper planning and execution of these dives is crucial.
